Vasco x Reader (feat Jace + Burn Knuckles): make the bad guys good for a weekend lifetime

"And what should you do if someone has their headphones in and clearly doesn't want to be disturbed?"

Men in grey boiler suits fill the park, clicking their tongue and shaking their head at the spectacle before them. Encasing two men in matching attire and one unfortunate guy kneeling on the floor.

Jace's voice rings out as he glares down at the man, the infamous Vasco grip pinching into his shoulder and holding him in place.

"L-leave them alone."

"What if they say they have a boyfriend?"

Vasco's hand tightens ever so slightly. This absolutely pest. How pathetic of him to not leave you alone. To push and push and push until you, his partner, had to call Burn Knuckles for back up.

What idiot doesn't understand boundaries?

"Leave them ACK! a-alone."

"If you ask for their number and say no?"

"Leave them alone."

"If you ask them for a date and they say no?"

Tears in his eyes and feeling his shoulder on the verge of snapping, "L-leave t-them alone."

"That is what a real man believes in. Consent and boundaries and respect." Jace turns to the rest of his brethren. "You hear that Burn Knuckles?"

"Yes, Jace sir!"

"No means no!" With fists pumping in the air, the entirety of the crew begins to chant. The man on his knees feebly joins in, strength returning to his voice with each iteration.

At first he thought he would return with backup to kick these guy's asses, but he was forced on his knees and humbled. How did someone even get this strong?

How did someone even amass this sort of following and loyalty?

And then.

His eyes flicker towards Vasco, Hero of Burn Knuckles, shouting alongside his crew, looking proudly on with a single tear running down his face.

It all made sense.

As Vasco's grip loosens, and the errant man looks around at these men. Because really, there's no other way to describe them. These men, alphas, specimens chant about respect - he finds himself completely moved.

Maybe he could be more like this. He observes the rippling, bulging muscles, the sharp jawlines, the tears now running down all their faces...

Now bowing down completely, flattening himself on the ground and forehead against the dirt. "I'm sorry, I should have listened. I'll do better."

He peers up at Vasco, who seems to have been anticipating this question all along.

"S-sir? Can I join Burn Knuckles?"

so i gotta ask... in your monster fucking landoscar (genius work btw i don't usually read this trope not by choice or anything just i guess it's not very commonly written in the fandoms i read??) so i came in with zero expectations and was left in awe and reflecting bout it for like 2 hour after lol BUT ANYWAY .... i gotta ask... do lando and oscar fall in loooooooooooove?!!??!!? c:

ANYWAY in answer to your question, yes they do!! in fact i think out of all my landoscar universes, this one might be the one where they’re most intensely in love. it takes them a little while to fully admit it to each other but the events in the fic are definitely the catalyst and then they’re just. obsessed with each other.

i was actually discussing this in the comments with @strawberry-daiquiris the other day because she noted that there’s a kind of latent desire to be bred in oscar that he never really faces head-on in the fic. now i am very much Not into breeding as a kink but she’s absolutely right, i didn’t consciously intend it but oscar really does want to keep lando’s eggs inside him — i don’t think necessarily to have his babies but just as proof that he’s close to lando and that his body can tolerate or even welcome what lando can put inside it. it’s a very intense and almost devotional feeling from oscar that he doesn’t really put into words, and lando feels it from the other direction, this awe and gratitude that oscar can see him and desire him for who/what he is rather than wanting him to be either more monster or more human. it’s a kind of them against the world feeling.

Your Challengers series on AO3 is giving me life right now. I love it so much. Like... the way you give all the characters such rich inner worlds and depths of emotion and motivation is just *chef's kiss*. Also the dynamics between the characters are so good as well!!! And the way you write Chengqing is perfection. I love how they got their happy ending after all. Thank you!!!

Thank you! That’s very lovely of you to say. 🥰 I think in many ways that whole series is like, my Chengqing thesis statement. I’m still always kind of peering around corners trying to figure out where I can fit Chengqing into my other works, because I loooooooooooove them, but I don’t think I’ll ever top what I did with that series. I was so glad I eventually got to balance out Jiang Cheng being a fairly steady rock/safe landing place for a very, very traumatized Wen Qing with flipping the script a little bit down the line, and having Wen Qing be the steady figure holding them both up while Jiang Cheng is being blindsided by his own unaddressed trauma. The whole time I worked on those fics, I was kind of thinking in terms of, what do these characters get from each other, what do they want to be able to give to each other, and it felt so clear to me, that the kinds of things Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing each want the most to give and to get are the same things. They agree on everything that’s important! In an ideal world they are perfectly suited. In an unideal world, they cannot be together because the things that make them compatible are also the things that tear them apart due to The Circumstances. Post-canon ChengQing splits the difference and lets them be together but only after they’ve lost a lot of what they loved the most. And I think because of that, I really did want to give them the happiest, most-hopeful ending that they could have.

14 Is there a character or ship you were so sure you would never write/draw but now you've changed your mind?

i started out completely uninterested in sylgrid lmaoooo. i thought they were so boring and didn’t consider them as a ship at all so didn’t imagine id ever be interested in writing for them. now they are one of my absolute OTPs and the one fic i have for them so far is probably my favorite thing i’ve written. i don’t even remember what changed my mind!!!! it was a divine revelation i guess

It’s in moments like these, when the feeling of his arm around your shoulder still lingers, and Jisung’s words echo in your head (why does he only hold you?), and Changbin’s nudging your side knowingly, that makes you think. — BECAUSE HE'S IN LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IDIOT.

Without warning, he sticks his thumb out to wipe something at the corner of your lips.  — i must not lie rn i literally started shaking my feet and giggling at this scene. feels soo romcom and i love it!! i love the little stereotypically romcom scenes you put throughout the story, it really add up to the excitement when reading.

“Don’t.” Before you can even proceed with your devious plan, you feel Seungmin flick your forehead as if he knows what you’re thinking. It’s because he does. Seungmin has memorized your body language. He knows you want to take a slice, and he also knows it’s still hot, and your tongue’s gonna burn, and you’re going to regret it. You slump back in your seat in defeat.  — there's something incredibly tender and pure about knowing someone so well, you can just read their body language and predict their next move. i love that you portrayed seungmin this way, and i love the scenarios you wrote that shows how caring seungmin is. so tender and just... makes your heart melt.

He tells you it’s because he can’t pay in case you've broken a bone or something. You have to remind yourself he isn’t yours. He’s just your best friend. Your stupid boyfriend material best friend.  Similarly, Seungmin’s telling himself to get it together. He needs to stay focused on the upcoming exams and stop thinking about what it’d feel like to be yours. — the best thing about these two paragraphs is how you managed to capture the essence of the best friends to lovers trope. you captured the sweet, cliche, and a little cheesy part of the trope perfectly!!! how do you write so flawlessly? i'm in awe.

His love was never made up of grand gestures, it was always in the little things that told you his life is so intertwined with yours. — god this is exactly why i absolutely adore the best friends to lovers trope. this. the purity, the longing, the burn. i will never shut up about how well u wrote this trope!! bcs u truly did!!!

“I have to talk to him.” “I love him.” “I know.” “And he loves me.” “He loves you.” — MOMENT OF REALIZATION ?!?!?! THIS IS LIKE THE CLICHE "OH," "OH." BUT DONE BETTER!!!

Seungmin feels like he can finally breathe again. He kisses you with every love and affection he’s kept hidden for years and years. — HE GOT HER!! THEY GOT EACH OTHER!! ALL IS WELL IN THE UNIVERSE!!

all in all, i think that this fic might be one of my favourite fics that i've ever read, ever. the slowburn is just the right amount of slow, the fluff and humor the right ratio. it's like if i combined the ingredients to a perfect fic, this masterpiece right here would be the result. just so *chef's kiss. thank u so much for creating this fine piece of literature, i can feel shakespeare quivering in his wake.

You roll your eyes to yourself, skimming through the notifications on your lock screen without really opening them. It’s mostly just a series of Seungmin asking you if you were awake every hour with a few whining in between about how he’s bored and how you need to wake up. 

While you’re laughing at his overdramatic messages (has he been hanging out with Hyunjin too much these days?), you accidentally unleash a storm upon yourself.

You hadn’t meant to click on one of the notifications, and now a taunting “read” is on the bottom of his messages.

Big mistake.

All hell is about to break lose.

The moment Kim Seungmin receives the small indication that you’re finally awake, his face flashes on your screen almost immediately in a Facetime call. It’s tempting to decline his call in favor of burying your face back into your pillows, but the clock reads 11am and you have an annoying best friend that needs your attention. You know never to ignore Seungmin. You’ve learned that the hard way.

Swiping on accept, his head of fluffy hair pops up on your screen. “Finally! What took you so long?” His phone angle shifts so his face shows now – it seems like he’s outside as he’s looking left and right before crossing somewhere. 

“Sleeping.” You rub your eyes, propping your phone against a box of tissues so he can see you while you fix your bed. 

“Didn’t wanna wake up cause you were dreaming of me?” You can hear the laughter in his voice.

Appropriately, you respond by gifting him your middle finger. “You wish.”

“Did you sleep well?” You hum in response even though you doubt he could hear you amidst the noise outside and the shuffling of your bedsheets. “What did you need?” You grab your phone from your nightstand, walking towards your refrigerator to get a glass of water. 

“Face wash. You’re coming with me. Oh, and bring an umbrella, it’s drizzling a little.”

“Gonna have to raincheck.”

Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I respond to every single comment, even though sometimes it takes me a couple days. I looooooOOOOoove comments and people gushing over my fics. Everyone is always so kind and I wish I could bask in the glow of their happy forever, because someone took time out of their day to read something I wrote, got all the way to the end and wanted to tell me how much they loved it. It doesn't get better than that.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Okay. So first things first, I actually do not write much angst as I am a perfectionist and if I'm not making myself cry while writing it, what's the point? Second the angstiest ending? Not beginning? Dammit. That would be "Hello Again" for the prompt fill 'Hello Again' in which Avitus wakes up from a dream of happier times with Macen, times before Andromeda...

If you do want the angstiest beginning in which I tried to smooth it over with some smut "Until the Stars Crumble" is the one you want. A sad post-war moment for Shakarian I originally wrote for @briarfox13 in which Garrus has a recording of Shepard's last goodbye programmed into the Shepard VI and he's having trouble moving on.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? Most of them 😆 but it is probably a toss up.

The first one would be 'Masquerade' in which Hawke has both twins alive since Celeste Hawke is a mage specializing in the spirit healing and lightning (she can use the other elements, just really loves lightning) and she shocked Bethany's heart like a defibrillator and healed all her wounds after the ogre attack. And she and Anders are happily living together secretly in Orlais and no one knows where they are since he blew up Kirkwall's Chantry.

And the second one would be 'Heaven' which sees Thane alive and well because Shepard gave him one of the tech laced lungs that Cerberus gave her. Thane, Taye and Kolyat are just a happy little family enjoying their time post Reaper War together, Thane loving how she and his son get along, Kolyat actually liking his Dad's girlfriend and Thane realizes he never wants to be without her and pops the question.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the strangest one you’ve written? I haven't actually written a true crossover, rather I have borrowed the universe I wanted and played in it--Underworld, The Lake House, and Miraculous Ladybug/Superman are my only ones. I'm not sure I consider any of them strange.

Oh wait. I lied I have a Mass Effect/Galavant crossover drabble. That one is the weirdest one for sure. XD

'Claimed' is my Underworld inspired Vampyr/Lycan Shenko AU/world crossover where humans have discovered the existence of supernatural beings and have risen up to take down this imposing threat, but the supernatural beings aren’t going down without a fight. Plus a Vampyr and a Werewolf just happen to be soulmates. ;)

'The Normandy' is my Lake House Shenko AU/world crossover where, incidentally, I had Kaidan as Kate and Alyss as Alex; the names just happened to match up. This time, Shepard had to wait two years to see Kaidan again, and their reunion is smutty and emotional.

And the Miraculous Ladybug/Superman AU/world crossover is also Shenko (I may have a problem) and has two parts due to my brain never working in a chronological order of events. Part one 'Alter Ego' has two (more to come) biotic-wielding, crime-fighting superheroes, who fall in love along the way, and are stuck in a love square between themselves and their secret identities. Part two 'Brainwashed' comes far later in the story and will eventually make it into the main story (Alter Ego) but it may take me a while to get there as I am stalled on all my long fics at the moment--hence all the oneshots. I did the prompts Brainwashed and turned against each other, and “I thought I lost you.”

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Nope. Everyone is so kind and encouraging, it warms my heart.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Only all the time--I'm not the Smut Queen for nothing. All the porn with feelings all the time. I have written so much smut at this point I have a list of new scenarios to try because it has been feeling a little stale lately. I will try almost anything--but I do have limits. XD

Have you ever had a fic translated? No :(

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? A few actually. The best thing about a co-author is you not only have a constant sounding board for all your ideas, you have a built in beta/editor to catch things you missed and I have to admit it's really nice.

What’s your all-time favorite ship? Ooh. That is a hard one as I have written so many. But you know what? Aric Jorgan/FemTrooper and Kaidan Alenko/Femshep. They are all soldiers so they just get each other and Aric and Kaidan don't push to complicate the chain of command and always want to know if they are going too far or getting their signals mixed up. And boy howdy is consent sexy. ;)

What are your writing strengths? Well I am definitely good at smut. It's my favorite thing. Fluff and dialogue and keeping people in character are some other ones. I am apparently good at angst even if I don't write it often.

What are your writing weaknesses? ACTION. Like ugh. And humor because I am apparently Satan. XD

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Honestly I try to avoid it as I really only speak one language (English). Like I speak a little Spanish but not enough. When I do use a different language (so far it's only been Spanish, Catharese, and Elvhen[Dalish]) I either try to translate it tastefully in the fic or leave a note at the end. But thanks to those dedicated fans or Star Wars and Dragon Age who made translators so I can generally get my point across.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? Honestly, I don't know if it was 'D.N.Angel' or 'Magical x Miracle' both of them were in 7th grade (2002) but I don't know which came first.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Oooh probably 'Can't Stand It'. I get to explore the Trooper/Aric relationship. I get to have them be professional and flirty and badass and watch them fall head over heels in live while realizing they were destined to be lifemates. And it brings me so much joy.

The very first Seventeen fic I read was seokhao actually! I barely knew anyone’s names to faces so I couldn’t really picture them as I was reading the fic but it was really fun. I definitely plan on exploring them more now that I know who they are lol. I love mafia dances, so that was one of the first videos of theirs I watched, and I looooooooooooved it.

OMG - I’m sorry it took me so long to reply to this, especially after you were so sweet. 

I don’t specialize in smut, but instead of a fic - how about a headcanon instead?

* Margaery and Tyrion are not dating, but they have this sexting thing going on. Like it’s a competition between the two of them to respond the fastest and steamiest. 

* Margaery and Brienne are roommates and after she shoots a message off to Tyrion, she begs her to watch her phone while she goes to the bathroom. Brienne finally agrees, but she is comically bad at it. She knows nothing about sex, and even less about flirting. 

*What she does not know is that Jaime is also watching Tyrion’s phone for him, and he finds the texts he’s getting from Margaery (Brienne) very amusing, and they banter back and forth for a while. 

*He gives the phone back to his brother, but he can’t get the conversation out of his mind. Brienne, meanwhile, practically throws the phone at her friend and vows never to do it again. 

*Tyrion decides to set his brother up with Margaery, because he keeps bringing up the conversation he had with her. But when they meet in a bar, he quickly realizes that this confident and flirty woman is not the person he texted with on the phone.  Margaery figures it out and is delighted, and tells him about her friend, but leaving out her name. He begs her for the mystery woman’s number, but she is hesitant because Margaery doesn’t want her friend to be hurt. 

*Margaery decides to throw a party, and not point out Brienne to Jaime at all. If he can find and connect with her without intervention, he will know it’s meant to be. He finally agrees and a big bash is thrown. 

*Jaime and Brienne meet at the party. He doesn’t know it’s her, but is drawn to the sight of her legs in a short dress that Margaery made her wear. She is painfully awkward talking to guys that approach her. When he talks to her, they immediately break into a squabble. He knows that there is no one else in the world who could be that terrible at flirty but fun to fight with. He asks for her number and she nervously gives it to him. 

*He sexts her all week. 

*After they start dating, she gets much better at replying. 

*Jaime sometimes sends her suggestive texts when he’s sitting right next to her. 

*At their wedding years later, Tyrion and Margaery take full credit for everything, of course.
